Updated from the original novel by Brian Garfield, "Death Wish" is the reimagining of the 1974 revenge thriller of the same name. Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of his city's violence as it's rushed into his ER––until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and college-age daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home. As the police are overloaded with crime, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts for his family's assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slaying of criminals grabs the media's attention, the city wonders if this deadly avenger is a guardian angel...or a grim reaper. (Gary Reber)

Special features include commentary with Director Eli Roth and Producer Roger Birnbaum, deleted scenes with optional commentary with Roth and Birnbaum (HD 06:10), the Mancow Morning Show extended scenes (HD 03:39), the "Sway In The Morning" extended scene (HD 02:51), the featurette "Vengeance And Vision: Directing Death Wish" (HD 11:44), a Grindhouse trailer, the theatrical trailer, upfront previews, and TV spots.

The 2.40:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa XT camera system and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. The color palette is nicely saturated with hue shadings that are revealing of nuances. Naturalness is exhibited throughout. Flesh tones are perfectly natural. HDR contrast is excellent. Black levels are deep and shadow delineation is excellent. White highlight are brilliant, especially against dark, night settings. Clarity and sharpness are exemplary. Resolution is excellent as well, with an overall sharp and clear imagery. Facial features, hair, beards, skin pores, tattoos, clothing, and object texture are well defined. This is a great visual experience that evokes reality and intensity with a compelling 4K Ultra HD reproduction. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic with an aggressive surround presence. The music is strong and fills the soundfield with energy. Deep bass is prominent throughout, with added intensity provided by the .1 LFE channel. SPL is strong during the intense action sequences, with powerful handgun and machine gun rounds and other sound effects. Atmospherics sound completely realistic with a good spread across the soundstage. ADA also is excellent. Dialogue is intelligible throughout with good spatial integration. This is a really intense violent soundtrack with strong soundfield envelopment. (Gary Reber)
