Based on the video game series by Scott Cawthon, "Five Nights At Freddy's" is the blood-chilling horror game phenomenon. Recently fired and desperate for work so that he can keep custody of his little sister, Mike (Josh Hutcherson) agrees to take a position as a night security guard at an abandoned theme restaurant: Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. But Mike soon discovers that nothing at Freddy’s is what it seems. Mike’s nights at Freddy’s will lead him into unexplainable encounters with the supernatural and drag him into the black heart of an unspeakable nightmare. (Gary Reber)

Special features include the featurettes "From Game To Big Screen" (HD 07:20), "Killer Animatronics" (HD 05:51) and "Five Nights In Three Dimensions" (HD 04:23) and a Movies Anywhere digital copy.

The 2.00:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa 65 camera system and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. The picture exhibits often a soft focus except for closeups in the frame. Backgrounds are diffused. Color fidelity is natural with at times glimpses of strong primaries, such as in the lit Freedy's redish signage. Hues are generally warm with natural flesh tones and complexions. Much of the picture appears in the shadowy dark interior environment of Freddy's. HDR contrast is generally good with bright levels exhibited in Mike's home and darkness in Freddy's. Black levels are realistic and shadows are generally delineated well. Resolution exhibits the finest detail during closeups of facial features, clothing and objects, such as the animatronic characters. This is a satisfying visual experience that delivers mysterious horrific visuals. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding with a strong deep bass presence and a haunting synthesizer and orchestral/choral score. The music extends wide and deep with an aggressive surround presence. Atmospherics are enveloping. Sound effects are diverse and often electronic sounding. Foley sound effects are realistic. Surround envelopment is aggressive and directionalized. Dialogue is intelligible throughout with generally good spatial integration.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of sporadic music, atmospherics and sound effects extension to the height layer. The element pops up infrequently and much more could have been achieved to enhance spherical dimensionality, although at times aggressive directionality occurs and the ending violent scene forms an effective height layer.

This is a creative holosoonic® spherical soundtrack that nicely complements the mysterious horrific storytelling. (Gary Reber)
