    "The Holdovers" follows a curmudgeonly instructor (Paul Giamatti) at a New England prep school who is forces to remain on campus during Christmas beak to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go. Eventually, he forms an unlikely bond with one of them –– a damaged, brainy troublemaker (Dominic Sessa) –– and with the school's head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam (Da'Vine Joy Randolph).     Special features include alternate ending: "Mary Continues On" (HD 02:25), five deleted scenes (HD 05:55), the featurettes "The Cast Of The Holdovers" (HD 10:41) and "Working With Alexander" (HD 08:36) and a Movies Anywhere digital code.

    The 1.66:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using Panavision cameras and sourced from a 2K Digital Intermediate. The picture exhibits a perfectly natural appearance while with superb realism. Color fidelity is excellent with rich and warm natural hues, Everything about the color is so natural. One can only imagine if this was mastered in 4K with a much wider color gamut. Contrast is well balanced, again with excellent realism. Blacks, shadow delineation and white levels are perfectly realistic, Resolution is superb with excellent sharpness and clarity. Lighting captures the feel of a snowy, cold winter environment. Facial features are nicely detailed as well as clothing fabrics and object textures. This is a wonderful picture that exhibits solid realism. (Gary Reber)

    The DTS-HD Master Audio 3.0-channel soundtrack delivers a left, center and right soundstage. Dialogue is the focus and the dialogue is wonderful though at times ADR produced and quite forward sounding. Otherwise the dialogue is nicely integrated spatially. Atmospherics sound realistic as well as sound effects, which are based in realism. Foley sound effects nicely enhance realism. The music is presented nicely across the soundstage and features some country/pop, choral and piano compositions at time enhanced with deep bass. Fidelity throughout is good. This is a fine soundtrack that delivers an emotional impact. (Gary Reber)

    I was always told to seek the superlative, and where home entertainment is concerned, WSR makes sure that my reach always exceeds my grasp. Fortunately, in this case, it's a good thing. I can count on WSR to always go beyond what every other magazine in the industry can provide. It has inspired me to explore the concepts, both technical and subjective, to the extent that I even feel smarter about home entertainment technology. Hardware and software are both dealt with in an informative and engaging way, so the value of the magazine surpasses its modest price. WSR has been a great inspiration for my wishes and dreams. I wish I could afford the ultra wares I see covered in the magazine. Nevertheless, I am wiser because I have gained a sense of judgment through reading WSR. (I must admit to having a bit of common sense, though, since I have been using Monster Cable products for over 10 years!) I hope WSR will continue to ignite the interest in its audience as it has up to now.
