In "The Wandering Earth II," in the near future, after learning that the sun is rapidly burning out and will obliterate Earth in the process, humans build enormous engines to propel the planet to a new solar system, far out of reach of the sun's fiery flares. However, the journey out into the universe is perilous, and humankind's last shot at survival will depend on a group of young people brave enough to step up and execute a dangerous, life-or-death operation to save the earth, (Gary Reber)

The 2.39:1/2.74:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally in anamorphic Hawk Scope using the Arri Alexa 65 and Arri Alexa LF camera systems and sourced from a 2K Digital Intermediate. Theatrically the movie was exhibited in IMAX and 4DX theatres in Dolby Vision. Picture quality is frequently stunning. The color palette exhibits generally cool hues, especially as the conditions on Earth increasingly get more apocalyptic, though they do not disappoint in terms of realism and cinematic impact. Flesh tones appear natural. Contrast is dynamic with natural black levels and revealing shadows, as well as realistic white levels. Resolution is frequently finely detailed both in terms of camera capture and CGI treatment, especially during segments of destructive mayhem. The differing aspect ratios exhibit minor differences with the wider ratio at times a bit soft. This impressive production is quite a visually stimulating experience that is sure to please fans of the original. (Gary Reber)

The Manderian Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack and the English DTS-HD MA 5.1-channel soundtrack are both extremely capable of delivering dynamic sonic energy and aggressive surround and soundfield envelopment. The Dolby Atmos soundtrack delivers a frequent strong Immersive Sound height layer presence including the orchestral score and scores of scenes which feature blastoffs, explosions and debris falling from the sky. There are numerous scenes exhibiting impressive technology which is accompanied with strong surround energy Atmospherics and environments are fully realistic. Sound effects deliver excitement. Deep bass at times extends to sub-20 Hz in the .1 LFE channel. The dialogue on both the Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD soundtracks is well balance with generally decent spatial integration. Though, the English dialogue is at times buried amongst the other sound elements and requires concentration to understand. In any event the preferred soundtrack is the Dolby Atmos, that is if subtitles are acceptable. If not, the DTS-HD soundtrack is also excellent with directionalized holosonic® envelopment. (Gary Reber)
