In "The Marvels," Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe. (Gary Reber)

Special features include commentary by Nia DaCosta and Tara DeMarco, the featurettes "Entangled" (HD 10:57) and "The Production Disries" (HD 05;30), gag reel (HD 01:59), four deleted scenes (HD 05:48) and a Movies Anywhere digital copy.

The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa 65, Arri Alexa LF IMAX and Arri Alexa Mini LF IMAX camera systems and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. While a 3D conversion was produced by SDFX Studios and Seeciboc, no 3D Blu-ray was provided for review. Picture quality is excellent with a vivid color palette that exhibits nicely saturated hues. Other-world environments and space settings elicit a sense of realism. Flesh tones are perfectly natural throughout. HDR contrast is wide with deep, solid backs, revealing shadows and bright white level imagery. Resolution is superb with fine detail exhibited in facial features and compositions, especially the Skrull's Kree, including beards, hair and lines.. Object textures, both in real life and planetary life settings, are also revealing of fine detail. Clothing and costumes are clearly delineated. This is superb looking with excellent color fidelity and resolution. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding with good dimensional depth. Of course sound effects, which are often panned throughout the soundfield, are a major element in the proceedings and are nicely energized and diverse. Bass enhancement actually sounds natural and not overly exaggerated. Surround envelopment is aggressive and at time directionalized. The orchestral/choral score serves as essentially a background element with a wide and deep sound stage that provides soundfield envelopment. Dialogue is intelligible though largely ADR produced.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of a subdued extension of the music and aggressive sound effects and atmospherics, which are present throughout. This translates to a nicely active height layer, which enhances the sense of spatial dimensionality.

This is an effectively dynamic enveloping holosonic® spherical surround soundtrack. (Gary Reber)
