Based on the novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz, Admission follows Princeton admissions officer Portia Nathan (Fey) who has lived her life by the book. But during her annual recruiting trip, she finds herself reconnecting with a former college classmate, idealistic teacher John Pressman (Rudd). As she bends the entrance rules for one of his very unconventional students, Portia puts at risk the future she thought she always wanted and finds her way to a surprising and exhilarating life she never dreamed of having. The 2.40:1 1080p AVC picture is nicely executed with a soft focus overall and a color palette that exhibits natural fleshtones and pleasing hues. Contrast is well balanced, with natural black levels and revealing shadow delineation. Resolution is decent, but focus smoothes the imagery. Close-ups fair better, but grain is evident. Overall, this appears cinematic and decently presented, with a pleasing result. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is relatively quiet, dialogue-focused in the vain of a conversational romantic comedy. The music score is nicely recorded and extends to the surrounds, but subtly. Occasional atmospherics and sound effects are supportive and energized with low-level .1 LFE bass. Dialogue is intelligible and generally integrated spatially. While a front-heavy sonic presentation, the overall result is pleasing and supportive of the storytelling. (Gary Reber)
